Focus:
Collaborative environmental governance; the politics of collaboration in contentious, multiple-use landscapes; stability and change in social-ecological systems; narratives and social networks.
My research centers on collaborative environmental governance, which embraces diverse voices, perspectives, and forms of knowledge in decision making. Collaboration can foster the creativity and collective action required to confront increasingly urgent environmental issues. However, collaboration is often messy and does not always lead to more effective, informed, and legitimate management. I investigate landscape narratives and social networks to better understand the politics of collaboration and the ways in which collaboration can shift social-ecological systems by creating new alliances and assumptions for management.
